Two and a half centuries ago, a pamphlet with this name made a radical case in plain language: the system everyone treated as permanent was just a story — and a better one was available to anyone willing to tell it. This book tries to do the same job for the economy.
It's the human story behind everything else on this site: why money created as debt quietly bends every incentive around it, why your data became the most valuable thing you give away for free, why feeling powerless is the rational response to the current setup — and why none of that is the end of the story. The economics live in the white paper and the tests; the book is the why, told the way a friend would tell it.
Honest status: it's a draft (the third one), and it reads like one in places. It's being finished in the open, the same way the rest of this project is built. Early readers get chapters as they're polished — and their pushback shapes the final version. No release date promised; formulas instead of dates is kind of our whole thing.
What it covers
Part one — the story we're living in. How the debt engine works, what it does to people, and why "just work harder" stopped being an answer. Part two — the story we could choose. The exploration economy, told through lives rather than mechanisms: what a day looks like when your data pays you, when effort is never pointless, and when honesty is the profitable strategy. Part three — the honest path. No revolutions, no overnight anything: the staircase from a habit app to a tested economy, including every place it could fail.
Read it as it's finished.
